The Power of Packing a Punch

Have you ever noticed how color has the ability to change your mood? White evokes a sense of peace and relaxation, red is exciting.....Just by being in or looking at a room with the right colors can change everything. Believe it or not, color is not the only ingredient that can produce this result. Mixing in elements like pattern, scale, and contrast (lots of contrast) have the power to get our senses going.

I am all in favor of a white or neutral room (see past blogs :)  but I am working on a project right now that is inspiring me to pack a punch...here is a peek into some of my research. Mixing it up is what makes design fun and inspiring!

Take colors that do not usually complement each other and make them work together to create striking contrast. Look at that floor! The black and white provides great contrast for the red door.

These colors alone are vibrant. Together, they demand attention. Next time you drive by my house you might just see this color on my front door.

Here is a kitchen designed a couple years ago by yours truly. Contrasting the predominantly white kitchen with punches of yellow. Yellow makes me happy.

You know how much I like my white rooms...but this blue chair breathes life into the room and really packs a punch!

I love the sophisticated nature of this room. It has a unique and collected look, with each dining chair being different and painted in the same color...The pop of emerald green and the contrast of blacks and white give your eye a place to land.
